The Fortunous Dynasty's Exploits
The Salton Rift is a group of three close stars formerly supporting a small empire based on three colony ships in the Dark Age of Technology. Known only through a small report by a Thulean Explorator ship, the full warp charts are allegedly kept by Aspyce Chorda.
The history, however, was well reported. Apparently the original colonists were active genecrafters that altered the populace in many ways. The most horrid, and only surviving, are their crossbreeds. The “Cutters” twisted the people into horrific monstrosities, mixing their genes with local creatures. Their intelligence was ruined and many died from the alterations. Some were just smart enough to lead an insurrection that overthrew the Cutters. In doing so, they ruined much of the terraforming that made the worlds livable.
Lost and cursed with subhuman intelligence they struggled to survive. On some worlds they didn’t.
There are only three crossbreed strains known to survive.
One is covered in heavy skin adapted to their desert climate. Their eyes see deep into the infrared spectrum, but are dulled in the normal range of human vision. Their fingers are spade-like and their nails are as hard as iron. They prefer the deep and dark places of their world.
Another comes from an ice world, unnamed by the Explorator fleet. They have thick blue hair and sharp teeth. Their muscles are thick and corded. Apparently they shredded several of the initial probes before a number were abducted by the Explorators.
The last recorded strain are almost completely covered in thin orange hair. They have an innate ability to constantly alter the endless acres of wreckage on their ocean world. This appears to be the only thing that’s kept them alive from the many monsters that swim through the many seas.
The gene spectrums were not included in the initial report.
The Rift is only known to be near the God Emperor’s Scourge. The exact position is not recorded in the general file.
