Imperial Guard

The Imperial Guard is the Sledgehammer of the Emperor. And the Fortunous Dynasty knows them well.

Awards
The Calixis Sector troops generally follow the awards used by the Cadians. This is the natural result of the presence of Shock Troopers throughout the Segmentum. However there are some local awards.

  • Iron Quill: This is awarded to officers who show a great knowledge of the Tactica Imperialis. It is rewarded via a complex test given to officers recommended by their commanders. The test is known to be hellishly difficult. One of the test designers once claimed that even the Adeptus Astartes of the Emperor’s Bulwark would find it difficult to pass. What the Bulwark’s response was, if they responded at all, is not recorded.
  • Purified Braid: This rare award is given by the Adepta Sororitas to Guardsmen who show great valor in battles for holy sites. Commonly this is from defenses of shrines or cathedrals. Most such battles are fought by the Frateris Templar or the Adepta themselves.
  • Steel Coronet: This is a coveted award for excellence in assaults. Granted to the unit at large, it is shown in two places. One replaces the banner topper and another is worn by the standard bearer. Officially, it should be worn on a bare head. This is uncommon. The coronet is made of pure steel and can become extremely cold. Most banner bearers wear it over a hat. The requirements are that the assaulting unit must take a fortified position that is critical to a major offensive. Unlike other awards it is only active as long as the regiment is. When the unit is decommissioned the coronet and old banner are placed in the unit cathedral. Steel threads are added to the edge of a new banner as a reminder.
