The Fortunous Dynasty's Exploits
The House Benetek/House vel Halth Feud:
The sort of conflicts the insanely rich can get into are unclear to many who ever have had to think about money.
But that is not the fate of the vel Halth and Benetek fued. It can be traced back to when the vel Halth Dynasty left Earth. Although the reasons are unclear, vel Halth records maintain that the indolence and tedium of Holy Terra was too much. It, the history goes, was unbecoming for Navigators to remain in such safety. This ignores that Terra is a political snakepit, at times deadlier than a Warp Storm.
So the vel Halths liquidated everything they had on Earth, trading property and stations away for maps, ships, staff, contracts and favors. The wealth exchanged could easily bankrupt a sector.
The Beneteks took the shifting of vel Halth assets as a signal to strike. It was a mixture of legal theft, kidnapping and robbery. Three entire vel Halth lines vanished.
In fact, the vel Halth maintain that the “Mad Navigator” of the Beneteks who saw the route through the storms was descended from one of those lines, the Dellin. His death, they say, is only proof that the Beneteks realize the superiority of the vel Halths.
Current conflicts include a running war of assassinations in the Ixiand Secrtor, the loss of the vel Halth ark Wandering Joy to a “sudden warp storm” and the annhilation of the Benetek Command Nexus on Tel.
A dozen minor incidents are active, of course.
But the greatest mission of all is growing inside some vel Halth lines. They will cut the Beneteks out of the Expanse entirely.
